i had the chance to visit traditional village of sasak tribe, sade, in praya, central lombok during my recent holiday.

sade, located around 20 kilometers from mataram, is a small village inhabited by around 700 people. the people in this village work as farmers, exactly the reason why their traditional house is called bale tani, literally means the farmer house.

beside working as farmers, the ladies make beautiful woven table mats, scarfs, shawls and the likes that they display for sale in the front part of their house. the prices for those beautiful, traditionally colored, woven material ranges from 50,000 - 200,000.

anywho, the guide who took me and my friend around the village said that all the adult female in his village can weave or at least are still trained to do so, as they can only get married if they can already weave.

aahhh ... it's a good thing i was not born in sade, i have two left hands when it comes to making handicrafts!
