the need for change explained!

still remember this one? my question if a human resources professional should have law degree.

i have been thinking. in the old days when human resources department is still referred as personnel if not general affairs department, a professional with law degree would, i guess, be well suited. someone with law degree is supposedly a master in comprehending various labor laws and having them in place accordingly.

nevertheless it was a personnel department! we are talking about personnel, no? workers? labors? those who would likely need personal department when in they are in a deep shit. don’t you think so? cause otherwise they would be busy working.

but.

nowadays. it is a human resources department.

human. resources.

we are talking about potentials. capabilities. competencies.

now, the same department, once referred as personnel department and now human resources, is needed not only when workers are in trouble.

workers nowadays are also seen as potentials, human resources. that is why maybe more and more companies refer them as associates instead of workers.

one has to admit that associates play important role in the success (and/or downfall) of a company. so why not empowering them? in oppose to only providing assistance when they are in trouble?

human resources professionals are the answers.

they are needed to state their expertise, not only when problem arises and associates need to be defended, but more importantly to play as the spear heads of the associates’ progressive advancement in both working related skills and knowledge. not to mention motivating. becoming role models. walking the talk. bla bla bla.

associates are empowered and equipped with things they need to excel in the working place. isn’t about time we put a little faith that they will work well in a much more conducive working environment that less and less problems need to be anticipated?

so does it have to be someone with law degree?

nah. i am not against those with law degree, i am just disagreeing with the belief that human resources (or shall i say personnel? :d) professionals should have law degree. yes, you are rite! hahahaha.. i put the odds in my favor for i do not have law degree :p

bottom of line is i adam and eve that some of our beliefs are indeed getting old and becoming irrelevant! and if we don’t do anything about them, hmmm….

yg paling penting.., menurut saya..
