work for money?

for the last couple of weeks, i have been busy with appraisal and salary review processes in my working place. so tiring! (yet rewarding, i know my raise before the due date haha!)
anyway, during the processes, i found some colleagues who think that they have to be given higher raise due to their length of service (most of them more than fifteen years, in the same position!). This very fact about length of service made them believe that they are the most capable ones in their respective position. i found it errr a bit amusing!
but their next justification made me flabbergasted : due to their age, now that they get old having spent more than fifteen years in the same company (in the same position!), it will be difficult (if not impossible) for them to find work elsewhere.
oh my.
i know remuneration is important (the most important? :D). but don't you think it is a bit funny to think that the company should be held responsible if someone works too long and gets old and cannot find work elsewhere? and to think that someone who has been working for sometimes can always work much better than the fresh blood?
... and there are many properly educated and trained fresh blood who are ready to work with much lesser labor related costs.you can't afford to stand tall, only to find that you are standing on quicksand.
pic is from here.

hehehe, problema klasik perhotelan dsini. hm...dilematik. apalagi klo ngeliat mereka, kadang suka ngikut2in kedarhan dan tetek bengeknya untuk bertahan. huhuhu.. kadang orang menghalalkan sgala macam alasan untuk mendapatkan apa yang dikira haknya yah?
